Roosevelt Truck Trail Outing | Minerva, NY

Join Northern New York Audubon and the Long Lake Parks & Recreation Department for a guided hike through one of the Adirondacks' beautiful boreal forests along the historic Roosevelt Truck Trail.

Stretching 2.5 miles between Blue Ridge Road and Route 28N in Minerva, the Roosevelt Truck Trail winds through mature boreal habitat that supports an incredible diversity of wildlife year-round. Led by Joan Collins, this point-to-point hike begins at the Blue Ridge Road trailhead and ends at the Route 28N trailhead. The trail follows a wide, former truck road with a mix of gentle hills and level terrain, finishing with an overall elevation loss of approximately 100 feet.

The surrounding boreal forest provides excellent habitat for specialty bird species, including Black-backed Woodpecker, Canada Jay, and Boreal Chickadee. Along the way, participants will also keep an eye out for signs of local wildlife, as Black Bear and Moose tracks are commonly found on this historic road.

August is an especially rewarding time to explore the Roosevelt Truck Trail, with a wide variety of colorful mushrooms and fascinating lichens adding to the beauty of the forest floor. Whether you're an avid birder, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful hike through the Adirondack wilderness, this outing offers a wonderful opportunity to experience one of the region's unique boreal ecosystems.

This program is jointly sponsored by Northern New York Audubon and the Long Lake Parks & Recreation Department.
