Rugar Woods, Plattsburgh, NY
Explore this hidden birding gem behind the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House. This outing will take participants through the forested and wetland habitats along the Saranac River above the Imperial Mills Dam.
Along the way, we’ll look and listen for a variety of forest bird species and see what else we might discover. The planned route is approximately 2.5 miles round trip and follows level to moderately sloping dirt paths. Depending on recent weather, trail conditions may be muddy in places.
Birders of all experience levels are welcome.
Registration: To register or for more information, email Mark Baran at mbara009@plattsburgh.edu.
Meeting Location: Rugar Woods Trails, northwest parking lot. From Rugar Street, turn into the west entrance for the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House near the softball field. Continue straight, then turn right into the driveway approximately 200 feet past the softball field.
What to Bring: Please bring binoculars, snacks, water, and clothing appropriate for the weather and trail conditions.
