Point Au Roche State Park Outing

Join Northern New York Audubon for a morning of birding along the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain at Point Au Roche State Park.

We’ll explore a variety of shrubby and forested habitats as we make our way toward the tip of Long Point, where panoramic views of Lake Champlain await. Along the way, we’ll be on the lookout for a variety of songbirds, waterbirds, and other fall visitors.

The walk is approximately 2 miles round trip and follows gently sloping grassy, rocky, and dirt paths. Depending on recent weather, portions of the trail may be muddy.

Meeting location: Deep Bay Parking Lot at Point Au Roche State Park. From the park entrance sign, continue east on Point Au Roche Road for approximately half a mile to Camp Red Cloud Road, across from Point Au Roche Lodge. Turn right onto Camp Red Cloud Road at the sign for the Point Au Roche Outdoor Interpretive Center (87 Camp Red Cloud Road) and follow the road to the end. The road becomes unpaved about halfway in.

What to bring: Binoculars, snacks, water, and clothing appropriate for the weather and trail conditions.
